Sometimes it is a bit tricky photographing someone I know as a performer. I might think that I already know who they are on stage and lean on that information to pull characters and looks for them while shooting. But actors are amazing creatures: to the casual observer they may seem very outgoing (and some are to an extent) but the actor as artist is guarded. Most save that energy for the characters they create. I love that moment in a headshot session when the guard comes down and we meet artist to artist. I become privy to whole other sides of people I already felt I knew. I love that. That is when I know magic is happening and I am capturing the artist, not the character.
